Dreamgirls

The choice was to either go see Freedom Writers or Dreamgirls. I knew for a fact that I didn't want to see some bullshit Hollywood overproduction that glamorizes urban teaching. I already live that glamorous life so why pay money to go see it at the movie? (Besides, I already saw Dangerous Minds) So, I chose Dreamgirls. What I didn't know is that I picked a musical...

Dreamgirls
$
10.00 tickets at the afternoon matinee

Length 125 minutes

Highlights

  • Some of the strongest female vocalists I have heard since I was a child
  • I literally got chills during a few of the songs
  • The Dreamgirls were easy on the eyes
  • Feel good message
Lowlights
  • The characters often sang the dialogue
  • We came late and had to sit in the second row
  • Turns out DTS-CSS means it has subtitles
Dreamgirls Stars
  • Eddie Murphy
  • Jamie Foxx
  • Jennifer Hudson
  • Beyonce Knowles
All in all this was a cute movie that glamorizes someone else's life, with a nice message. There were, as you might imagine, some cheesy parts - but the quality of singing made up for the faults of this Broadway Musical turned Hollywood.

The only question I am left with... Whatever happened to scripts like The Goonies?
